What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is the art and science of practicing medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases using predominantly natural healing methods. It is a system of therapy based on preventative care and it is utilizing nature's own ability to heal itself.

Naturopathic Doctors are primary care physicians. At the turn of the 20th century, medical practitioners from various natural therapeutic disciplines founded Naturopathy in the US as a formal healthcare system of its own. By the early 1900s, more than 20 naturopathic medical schools existed and Naturopathic Physicians were licensed in most states. Currently, there are many licensed Naturopathic Doctors in the US who treat their patients with natural modalities in conjunction with encouraging their patients to be active participants in their own healthcare.

As practiced today, Naturopathic Medicine integrates traditional natural therapeutics with modern scientific medical diagnostic science and standards of care. The modalities include, but are not limited to: acupuncture & traditional oriental medicine, botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, minor surgery, natural childbirth, pharmacology and physical medicine.

Naturopathic patients are treated for their individual physical, psychological and emotional needs. We also specialize in pediatrics, geriatrics and women's & men's health. As a Naturopath, physical exams are performed, which include breast examinations, PAP smears and blood work, if indicated.
